Scottish Certificate for Personal Licence Holders (On-Sales and Off-Sales)

Duration: One full day with pre-course study

Target Audience: 
If you sell, or serve alcohol then you must be trained to do so. 
This course is for staff responsible for the sale of alcohol.

Assessment Method: 
Multiple-choice exam with 40 questions, with pass mark being 28 answered correctly to pass.
All questions test the knowledge of the person taking the exam.

Key Issues: 
The Personal Licence course covers all aspects of the law and social responsibilities in relation to the sale of alcohol to the public.

What happens after I pass my exam?: 
After passing the Personal Licence exam and receiving your recognized certification, you will then need to make an application to your local council in order to obtain your Personal Licence.

Scottish Certificate for Personal Licence Holders (Refresher)

Duration: 1 full Day

Target Audience: 
Personal Licence Holders must complete refresher training 5 years after the date that your Personal Licence was issued.

In addition, you must retake your Personal Licence Holder training 5 years after that.

Assessment Method: 
The exam consists of a multiple choice question paper with 40 questions, with pass mark of 28 being answered correctly to pass.

Award in Door Supervision (Scotland) SCQF Level 6

** From 1st April 2021, any candidate booking a Door Supervisor Training course will be required to hold a valid first aid certificate, this has to be presented to the tutor prior to any training.**

 

Duration: This qualification is achieved by taking a 6 day classroom-based course accompanied by blended and/or distance learning.

Target Audience: 
The Private Security Industry (PSI) Act of 2001 means that everyone wishing to work legally in certain roles in the private security sector has to have a licence. The licences are administered by the Security Industry Authority(SIA).

Assessment Method: 
The SIA Security award consists of four mandatory units.

  • Unit 1 – Principles of Working in the Private Security Industry
  • Unit 2 – Principles of Working as a Door Supervisor in the Private Security Industry
  • Unit 3 – Application of Conflict Management in the Private Security Industry
  • Unit 4 – Application of Physical Intervention Skills in the Private Security Industry

Knowledge and understanding will be tested by multiple choice question papers. Practical skills for the Physical Intervention unit will be tested through observation of practical performance by a qualified Assessor.

What happens after I pass my exam?: 
After passing the Award in Door Supervision (Scotland) exam and receiving your Certification, you can then make an application to the SIA (Security Industry Authority) online through their website here in order to obtain your SIA Licence.

Please be advised that the course duration is 6 days and the processing time for results is normally between 2 and 3 weeks for you to obtain your Qualification. Furthermore, upon your application to the SIA, there will be a processing time therefore please take this into consideration when thinking about time-scales for applying for obtaining a licence.

Award for Upskilling Door Supervisors (Scotland)

** From 1st April 2021, any candidate booking a Door Supervisor Training course will be required to hold a valid first aid certificate, this has to be presented to the tutor prior to any training.**

 

Duration: 1.5 Days

Target Audience: 
This course is supported by the SIA to meet the mandatory SIA top-up requirements for Door Supervisors who undertook their qualification pre 2010.

Assessment Method: 
Practical/written and multiple choice tests with pre course study.

Key Issues: 
Mandatory contact hours 7.5 hours. Guided learning hours 12.

What happens after I pass my exam?: 
Complete the renewal process online here through the SIA (Security Industry Authority) website, along with appropriate ID and fee.

HABC Level 2 Award in Understanding Stewarding at Spectator Events (AUSSE)

Duration: 

The total qualification time for this qualification is 50 hours, of which 40 are recommended as guided learning hours.

TQT is an estimate of the total number of hours it would take an average learner to achieve and demonstrate the necessary level of attainment to be awarded with a qualification, both under direct supervision (forming guided learning hours) and without supervision (all other time). TQT and GLH values are advisory and assigned to a qualification as guidance.

Target Audience: 

The objective of this qualification is to prepare learners for employment and support a role in the workplace.

It is designed for learners who wish to work as a steward in the Active Leisure, Learning and Well-being sector. This may include events such as sports, music festivals, concerts, parades or carnivals. It covers how to prepare for events, control entry and exit of customers, identify and deal with crowd problems and respond to emergencies.

Assessment Method: 

This qualification is assessed by portfolio of evidence.

What happens after I pass my exam?: 
On successful completion of this qualification, learners may wish to continue their development by undertaking one of the following qualifications:
• Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Spectator Safety
• Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Spectator Safety
• Level 4 NVQ Certificate in Spectator Safety Management

First Aid at Work
  • This course covers the full syllabus.

    The course will teach the student how to deal with:-

    • Resuscitation
    • Bleeding
    • Care of the unconscious casualty
    • Shock
    • Hypoxia
    • Diabetic and epileptic emergencies
    • Burns
    • Fractures
    • Poisoning
    • Infection control
    • Simple record keeping.
     

    A certificate and wallet card will be awarded on a successful assessment on completion of the course. The qualification is valid for 3 years. First Aiders with a valid qualification may be designated a First Aider in the workplace.

    The duties of a First Aider can be physically demanding.  It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure that delegates are free from any condition which would affect their capability and that they have the aptitude to cope with an intensive course of study. We welcome candidates with disabilities for training, but it remains their employer’s responsibility to ensure that they are appropriately supported in their workplace

    Note – First Aid cover is required throughout the whole of the working hours, for holiday cover, and for planned absences etc
